- Our role
- Establishing the fundraising function and leading two campaigns
€8.5 million raised across two campaigns, restoring the Monastery Church and the Castle buildings at Glenstal.
The situation
Glenstal is a Benedictine monastery and a boarding school, sharing one estate in Co. Limerick. Its castle dates from the 1830s and its church from the 1950s, and both needed significant restoration. There was no fundraising function, and two communities - the monks and the school’s families and past pupils - whose loyalties and priorities were not the same.
What we did
We built the fundraising function from the ground up, then planned and led two campaigns in parallel: Radiating Peace for the Abbey and Tradition of Excellence for the School. Each had its own case and its own supporters, under one approach that respected both communities.
What changed
The two campaigns raised €8.5 million, funding the restoration of the Monastery Church and the Castle buildings.
James supported us in establishing a fundraising function at Glenstal and guided us through two major campaigns: Radiating Peace for the Abbey and Tradition of Excellence for the School. Throughout the process, James was thoughtful and attentive to the different communities that make up our wider Glenstal family. His steady presence and wise counsel were deeply appreciated.
